truman at homegrown 2012 copy

One year ago this very week, your Band Called Truman’s Homegrown set melted faces, packed Carmody’s and generally blew the roof off tha dump — ON A MONDAY NIGHT.

This year, we have an even tighter space — with FOUR MORE MEMBERS! Will we top last year?

Come to the Amazing Grace Saturday nite and find out!!!!

Here’s the Line-Up:

6:45 p.m. with Germaine Gemberling

Homegrown’s mini-bio:

Germaine Gemberling is a singer/songwriter from Sparta. She is accompanied by Rich Mattson (of the Glenrustles, Old Yeller, the Tisdales and the Bitter Spills) on guitar and background vocals. Gemberling started out in the early 1990s with her all-girl punk band Smut in Minneapolis. In 1998 she moved to Ely and began writing songs with her acoustic guitar. Her album Generator is scheduled for release on Chaperone Records one week before Homegrown.

7:45 p.m. with Somewhere But Who

From HG:

The guys in Somewhere but Who have been playing together in the Duluth area for about six years, playing local bars and basements blending their musical influences of folk, blues, jazz and soul into what they describe as “desert rock, or something like that.” The lineup features Bryce Willet on guitars and vocals, Andy Lipke on lead guitar and Guy Merolle on drums. They released their self-titled debut album in 2012.

8:45 p.m. with — us — A Band Called Truman

What we told Homegrown:

“Ain’t nobody getting famous in this band,” says singer, guitar player and 17-year Duluth music-scene veteran Leon Rohrbaugh. “We’re just going to have the most fun.” This is A Band Called Truman’s third Homegrown and Rohrbaugh’s 14th out of 15. He says the group plays “original rock-and-roll with a big sound,” and a new organ player and horn section make it even bigger, funkier and funner. Tom Wilkowske plays bass and sings back-up. Kelly Lussier drums and sings. Jim Pospisil plays piano and organ and sings. Jessica Olson and Kirby Wood play trumpet. Mina Hubert plays baritone saxophone. Dale Shimmin plays trombone.

We had a great rehearsal and are feeling awesome about playing Homegrown again — yyyyeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaeeeeeeaaaaaeeeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
